20 steps to ptsd recovery

Thank you for making the time to find and read my blog. My aim is to help other people and hopefully provide some guidance and direction to avoid too many delays like those I experienced. I have navigated my own PTSD, from delayed diagnosis and struggling to get treatment over the last 4+ years.

I have now reached a place where I am recovering ‘me’ again, able to live and thrive in a way that I never thought possible in the many long dark days of feeling as though I was never going to get better. It has been a long, complicated and bumpy journey. It has been a struggle to find the right help and information; when you find information on line it is hard to know what to trust and what not to trust.

My journey has been littered with health professionals, some of whom have helped and been amazing, but sadly there have been some who have misunderstood, hindered and made things worse because they lack the necessary knowledge. This is not to mention the poor understanding and lack of compassion (and even sympathy at times) from my workplace (I work in healthcare, ironically, which is meant to be the caring profession).

Although I have called this 20 steps, they don’t have to come in any particular order and some steps can also happen at once. Everyone is different and what works will vary from person to person.

I want to improve this for others through sharing a bit about my journey, what helped, what didn’t in a personal way. Take what you need from this – learn and be open, but more than anything, be kind to yourself in that journey.
